A policy that conforms to certain standards in federal law and offers certain federal tax advantages.
Friendly calls provided by agencies or volunteers that offer reassurance, contact, and socialization to an elderly person at a predetermined time each day.
Covers a person for a period of one or more years. It pays a death benefit only if the owner dies during that term. It generally does not build a cash value.
A benefit that allows one to name someone who the insurance company would notify if coverage is about to end due to non-payment of premium. This can be a relative, friend, or professional such as a lawyer or accountant, for example.
The right to return the policy within 30 days after you have purchased the policy, if you do not want it for any reason, and the right to receive a refund for the premium paid.
A storytelling method that frees people with dementia from the anxiety over memory by encouraging them to use their imaginations. Anne Basting, director of UWM’s Center on Age and Community, developed TimeSlips with the aim of improving the quality of life of people with dementia. Hundreds of poetic stories have emerged from the storytelling workshops thus far, and studies suggest it significantly improves communication among people with dementia.

A “text telephone” modified phone system where a hearing-impaired user can type messages to another person and read responses on a small screen. Also commonly referred to as “TDD” (telecommunication device). A “read only” conversation can exist between two people who each use TTY equipment. Otherwise, a non-hearing impaired caller can use a relay service where a special operator acts as a go-between to translate the speaker’s words into text and text print into voice communication.
